Leadership, OD and EDI Professionals South East Regional Network Meeting – A farewell

The 19th March 2024 marks the final occasion that the NHS South East Leadership Academy will host the regional network meeting for Leadership Development, Organisational Development and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Professionals working in Health and Care. This meeting bids farewell to the NHS South East Leadership Academy as aspects of their work transitions into the wider Workforce Training and Education directorate within NHS England.

We invite all network members to join us from 12.00 – 13.30 to connect with colleagues from across the region to spend time together to share current challenges and successes.

This meeting will also be an opportunity to celebrate the work of the NHS South East Leadership Academy team since the NHS Leadership Academy was formed in 2012.  We invite all network members to join us reflect on our journey since we were established across Thames Valley and Wessex and Kent, Surrey and Sussex. We hope to mark some of our achievements, celebrate our impact and remember colleagues who have contributed to our profession.

We know you are keen to maintain the network beyond the end of March 2024, we will make some time to explore potential options to sustain this regional opportunity to connect.

During the meeting we would like to give you the opportunity to share some of your experience of connecting and working with the Leadership Academy in the South East over the past 12 years. You may like to share a personal message, a memory or an achievement enabled by the academy.  We are also keen to hear your thoughts on the impact the team’s work has made within your organisation and perhaps more broadly across your system.

Your booking details (i.e. name, role, organisation, ICS) will be shared with the event provider and/or facilitator to allow them to understand participant thinking and adapt the event accordingly, in addition to other regional leadership academies (as required) and with the members of other relevant SELA networks to aid communication, sharing of good practice and support. Future System: A NHS which achieves diversity

The North East and Yorkshire Leadership Academy Presents: Future System: A NHS which achieves diversity

This session will apply a systems lens to the NHS achieving diversity. The session will build on the theme of Black History Month and take this idea into Black Future Month, where we will invite participants to envisage a future in which diversity was valued and what this means for the organisation.

Dr Luke Roberts has worked for 20 years in the fields of mediation, restorative practice and conflict resolution. He has been a practitioner, trainer and consultant supporting communities and organisations to transform conflict into a healthy process which benefits from creative and empathetic experiences. Dr Luke Roberts is an academic whose MBA focused on organisational innovation, M.Ed focused on whole organisational change and PhD focused on system change and sustaining innovation.

 

The aim of this session is:

  • To use system thinking to understand how collaboration can visualise alternative system perspectives.

Learning objectives: 

  • Participants are able to identify different types of system behaviour.
  • Participants are able to construct system indicators.
  • Participants are able to collaborate on system change.

In celebrating 75 years of the NHS, through Black History Month we commemorate the richness in leadership diversity.

You are invited to a storytelling session as we listen to colleagues share their leadership stories of resilience, triumph and cultural heritage. Storytelling reminds us of the lasting impact of our words and actions on others.

Our guest speakers will reflect on their leadership attributes. These stories weave a career and leadership journey of Black colleagues; their passions, why they joined the NHS, and the struggles and achievements of their careers to date. Come and join the session to elevate the voices, stories, and achievements that have continued to shape lives and change cultures, and contribute to the richness, resilience and diversity within our region.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Black History Storytelling Session. It will be part of an enriching experience that celebrates the legacy of Black history and empowers us to continue creating and harnessing a more inclusive workforce for the future. Flexible Working – Complex Scenarios

The Flexible Working Team, together with colleagues from NHS Employers and Unison would like to invite you to a dedicated session on the complex scenarios that often arise around flexible working.

In June’s session we asked Flexible Working Network members what support they needed to implement flexible working in their organisations and teams and support with these ‘knotty issues’ was requested.

This session will explore some of the trickier scenarios that occur with flexible working e.g. accommodating flexible working requests in smaller teams, and talk these through using examples developed by NHS Employers, Staff Council and trade union colleagues.

We will be looking for attendees to share their experience in navigating these challenges as well as input on any other frequently occurring issues that require further support. Detailed agenda to follow.

Flexible Working Network

Please join us at our next Flexible Working Network event. This network will allow for engaging discussion, sharing of ideas and exploring of the ‘wicked issues’ and challenges facing the implementation of flexibility across the NHS. It is open to NHS colleagues with an interest in helping us to embed flexibility, and provides an opportunity for two way communication.

Following feedback at the last Network event, this session will focus on E-rostering/Self-rostering and how the technology alongside collaborative team processes can enable and support a flexible working culture.

SELA Regional Leadership, OD and EDI Network

We will be hosting the next regional network meeting on 4th October 2023 from 12.30 to 14:00. Given the scale and pace of change in the Health and Care system, we hope to provide you with a focused space to gather with colleagues from across the region, share your challenges and support each other

We will be committed to hosting a space to network, share and learn from each other.

We will provide an update on our team, our current priorities and what you can expect to see from us in the coming months. We will also highlight some of the CPD opportunities that are available to you. The remainder of the time will be protected to provide a number of opportunities for conversations with colleagues.

The programme will run for 90 minutes in response to your feedback that a focused, lunchtime session works best for you. We will send further details on the session nearer the time.

This masterclass is an Intermediate Level Workshop for Practices/PCNs and ICB Leads  delivered in partnership with  South East Primary Care Transformation Team and the South East Leadership Academy

The session will cover some practicalities and value around leaders embedding equality, diversity and inclusion principles in the primary care context. The goal is to help you think through a strategy for implementing EDI in primary care in its broader context of often-competing initiatives, perspectives, expectations, policies and politics.

Outcomes

  • Review Inclusive Recruitment – looking at your policies are they inclusive, do you do exit interviews, what does your workforce data tell you?
  • Looking at data – health inequalities of your population, how can you shape your services when thinking about inclusion.
  • Equality Impact Assessment – reviewing your template.
  • What are the 9 protected characteristics and your legal responsibilities?
  • Connecting to inclusion networks

This session will be repeated three times, 90 minutes each session – please register for the date which suits you:
