Coach Supervision with Denise Harris
About the session:
The focus is to create a safe and supportive environment that concentrates on participants’ learning. The format is characterised by active listening and thoughtful questioning.
The supervisor will use a variety of models to structure the discussion and apply simple rules of reflection so individuals can take stock of their own coaching practice, explore their thoughts and feelings around their coaching, and strengthen understanding and confidence.
There is an expectation that coaches will arrive at the supervision session read to share the issue they want to explore or address. This may be to reflect on a critical incident or challenging situation or to prepare for a future coaching session.
Examples of topics may include:
- Managing the dynamics and relationships in your coaching
- Fulfilling client and organisational expectations
- Addressing immediate issues or concerns that might be impacting on your coaching
- Sharing skills and experience
- Developing confidence and standards of competence in coaching
- Ensuring you adhere to professional, ethical, and organisational standards by addressing potential dilemmas of an ethical nature, or exploring conflicts around personal values

About the Facilitator
Denise Harris
I have worked in the NHS for nearly forty years, firstly as an occupational therapist, and then in a variety of roles supporting staff and team development. My current role is Head of Learning and Organisational Development for Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT). Having qualified as a coach in 2008, I was a founder member of the coaching network in what was Kent, Surrey, and Sussex Strategic Health Authority and continue to coach across the region as part of the Southeast Regional Coaching Network. I completed the NHS Institute / Bath Consultancy Supervisor Programme in 2010 and have since been part of the team of coach supervisors offering individual and group supervision across the region.
