Leadership Dispatch – 10 November 2022

Welcome to our November edition of the Leadership Dispatch.

This month I have been reflecting on the very mixed place that myself and many colleagues find ourselves in. Our health and care workforce continue amongst a challenging operating context and facing what we are all expecting to be a very tough winter, still tired from the last one. Yet at the same time, we see fantastic examples of leadership and incredible innovations to deliver a great service to those in receipt of our care.

In news close to the heart of the Leadership Academy, GMTS (our Graduate Management Training Scheme) has moved up the prestigious Times Top 100 Graduate Employers ranking, from 3rd place in 2021 to 2nd in 2022.  The Scheme also won ‘Graduate Employer of Choice’ in the ‘General Management’ and ‘Human Resources’ categories, at The Times Graduate Recruitment Awards 2022.  We are now preparing for our next cohort due to start in September 2023, with our assurance process for organisations and ICS’s to apply to host being launched by the end of this week. All of the regional teams will be hosting a number of information sessions to discuss the scheme in further detail, the benefits trainees bring to an organisation/ICS and how to submit host applications. Formal communications with further information will be cascaded to the relevant networks and key stakeholders imminently.

This month we are also proud to share with you the agiLab research around leading an agile workforce in the NHS. The report outlines what NHS leaders need to focus on in order to effectively manage an agile workforce and is based on interviews with 32 leaders and workers from Trusts across the South East (detailed in the report). Thank you again to those trusts for your involvement and it is great to be able to share the research with everyone here. Findings highlight ‘professional intimacy’ as a key resource for leaders to effectively manage staff working flexibly at different times, places or in different roles and outlines how leaders can develop and support this within their teams.

.

Our offers to support leaders through continuing times of challenge and transition are detailed in our slide deck below and include sessions around teamwork in turbulent times, influencing without authority and unpacking power. Offers around leading inclusively, leading across systems and leadership interventions specifically for our Primary Care leaders, GMTS managers and coaching faculty are also detailed. Please feel free to have a look and to book onto any offers that are of interest.
