The compassionate learning organisation session 4 – Systems Thinking
This 4 session virtual programme – free as part of your organisation’s membership of NHS Elect – has been designed to allow you to deepen your capacity to lead effectively and learn how to create an adaptive, flexible learning environment where colleagues are encouraged to create a shared vision organisation.
It is easy to think of our teams, services, and health and social care systems as ‘systems’. What is not always so readily acknowledged is that it is not the parts themselves that support effective systems but the interconnectedness of these parts.
Our desire to make complex things simple, means that we try and analyses the parts rather than understand the connectiveness of the many parts. That we seek to explain problems and challenges through simplistic ‘cause and effect’ explanations. What we may have to accept is that everything that we know and understand about the systems in which we work are just beliefs and assumptions that we hold that we have never tested or challenged.
In this final session, we will explore how by building upon the elements explored in the previous sessions, we can use models and approaches that may allow us to better understand the systems around us.
