Leadership Espresso – Leading with Kindness

About the session:

Our mission is to spread kindness in healthcare. Because kinder healthcare care is safer healthcare. When healthcare staff work in kinder cultures not only does their wellbeing improve, patient wellbeing does too. When people experience kindness in stressful clinical situations, they get better outcomes. And being kind has its benefits, people who demonstrate kindness are calmer, happier, more productive, and less stressed. Yet there is an epidemic of unkindness in healthcare. Around 25% of NHS staff say they have experienced bullying in the past year. Our research shows colleagues’ poor behaviour is the number 1 cause of disengagement in the NHS. These unkind behaviours you see everyday break down the teamwork that’s essential for high quality care. They make mistakes and errors
more likely. They make colleagues miserable. And they are contagious

It’s hard to understand the impact and energy created by ‘Kindness into Action’ workshops until you’ve experienced them. In 3 hour sessions for up to 300 people, you will find out really makes a good day or a bad day in your organisation, the culture today and the culture people want instead. Even more powerful, through real-time inputs, attendees get new insight into the impact their own behaviours have on colleagues, teamwork and safety, building renewed motivation and energy to change.

What will be covered?

During the session we will:

  • explore the evidence for kindness and practice skills to create more good days.
  • explore the evidence showing rudeness harms wellbeing, incivility harms safety. And the impact of discrimination and how we can act to overcome it.
  • practice the ABC of appreciation: intentional praise that promotes behaviour change and drives performance
  • You will leave clear and motivated to role model, appreciate and speak up for the new culture.

Who is this session for?
