Welcome to our December edition of the Leadership Dispatch
This year Disability History Month (16th November to 16th December) focuses on childhood and youth, past present and future. Last year we completed a study of over 200 NHS disabled staff and leaders, ‘Enabling our Talent’ full study’ and summary please contact us for accessible versions. One finding that stood out for our Head of Talent, Fiona Rodden, was the high proportion that still considered their condition itself to be the limiting factor in their career, rather than the environment around them being inaccessible, the latter being the commonly accepted social model of disability.
We are building a Talent Acceleration Group for Disabled aspiring directors currently in our South East Talent Pool. Recently Fiona interviewed some potential members and heard several reflections that while people did not perceive inaccessibility around them, they had forgone opportunities for learning and progression for fear that their disability, physical and mental health conditions prevented them from being successful.
Please join us this month in taking action to help address this problem and put a reminder in your diary now to do something tangible to help the next generation of disabled children to believe that they can lead.
Things you can do:
- Please join our South East Talent Pool and declare any disabilities you have to be eligible for our Talent Acceleration Group for Aspiring Disabled Directors.
- Coaches – please sign up to our Coaching and Neurodiversity webinar on 15th February 2024.
- Become a trainer for Handling difficult conversations with compassion.
- Encourage your team to do something tangible to look after themselves today and to make time for their own development and growth – through ANY of the fantastic opportunities below.
