Leadership Espresso – Disability Inclusive Masterclasses

About the sessions:

The NHS Leadership Academy in collaboration with Diversity & Ability have created a series of three masterclasses exploring disability and inclusion. They will explore themes around disability and inclusion focussing on our understanding of disability, how we use language and hold positive conversations and building confidence around disclosure.

Changing the way we understand disability

This session will begin by re-conceptualizing how we understand disability, and will explore this through the lens of the models of inclusion.

Inclusive communication and how to have Positive Communication

A session to explore our use of language in more depth, and look at why we use certain languages and highlight the impacts of getting
language right and wrong, in terms of representation.

Developing confidence around supportive conversations

Exploring the importance of creating psychological safety to facilitate conversations and develop confidence. As well as exploring how to advocate for yourself and confidently, and safely, share the barriers you are experiencing

These sessions will touch on best practice in language and disability etiquette and introduce language to help us to create a more inclusive workplace and enable everyone to thrive! Delving deeper into exploring how to create and have positive communications with team members and colleagues that are enabling and supportive; so we can harness diversity of thought and the assets that everyone can bring to the team!
