Leadership Dispatch – 17 August 2022
Welcome to our August edition of the Leadership Dispatch.
Hopefully this latest leadership dispatch will land with you when you are returning to work from your holidays, refreshed and recharged.
Both the national and local leadership Academy teams have been working away in the background to bring you a very comprehensive programme of offers for the months ahead. These programmes have been designed with the aim of supporting the leaders in the South East region to meet the many challenges in the system that we are collectively facing with our colleagues in the social care and VSCE sectors.
One of our key priorities for us in the Leadership Academy for 2022 is to support the ICS formation. We continue our focus on Systems leadership with the Talking systems series. The second of four sessions can be found here with a link to the whole programme here. We have also been working together to develop ten Systems and Relational leadership modules in partnership with Tricordant. The resources are for leaders in health and care looking to learn more about leading and working collaboratively across organisational, professional and sector boundaries to improve healthcare and wellbeing for their population. You can access these modules for free via the Leadership Learning Zone
The shift towards a system wide approach to address population health requires leaders to work in a different way. If you follow this link and are interested in some self-reflection, these system leadership cards ask questions about different behaviours and how these are felt individually, at an organisational and system level.
Another priority for us in the Leadership Academy is to support the development of compassionate leaders and to support the overall health and wellbeing of individuals. We have a series of masterclasses throughout September and October which focus on;
- Exploring workplace conflict and how mediation can help
- Unpacking Power
- Conversations to Build Resilience
- Influencing without formal authority

In addition, we have a new series of Population Health Management Masterclasses covering subject areas including Population Health Management and Strategic Workforce Planning, Techniques to embed Population Health Management approaches in day-to-day work, and Population Health Management and Health Inequalities. Coaching and mentoring is always a central offer. If you are interested in accessing coaching or mentoring, please register here. This register is supported by a network of qualified coaches and mentors across the south east region, who are supported with a programme of CPD including Embedding my mentoring practice- “Strengths Based mentoring” – CPD.
September is always an exciting month for us at the Leadership Academy as we welcome the new cohort of Graduate Management Trainees. We will be hosting a Welcome Event for GMTS which provides an opportunity for our trainees to meet senior leaders within the South East region, network with other trainees as well as meet new joiners to the scheme.
Please also look at our what is coming section. We have some exciting new programmes including one targeted at leaders who will have a transformation or change leadership role. The programme is designed to both challenge participants’ thinking about their roles as leaders working across systems, whilst also providing these individuals with the confidence to act as ‘change consultants’ as they engage in system change programmes.
