DESCRIPTION:About the session:\n\n\n\nThe session focuses on the psychology of now and the impact of the current context on individuals. It emphasises the power of effective communication\, levels of listening and the importance of creating moments of connection during increased times of pressure\, workload and secondary stressors. \n\n\n\nAt the heart of this virtual session is a belief that individuals need to be supported and cared for – provided with time and space to reflect\, process and understand their current context so they are equipped to manage the challenges and pressures they face. Through having guided development time\, we increase our ability to support others and lead successfully within a continually changing context. This session will give you the opportunity to connect with peers\, share experiences and explore new tools and approaches to support yourself and your midwifery teams. \n\n\n\nWhat to expect in these sessions:\n\n\n\nThe sessions are participative and active. Rebekah uses breakout rooms\, interactive feedback tools (Menti.com) and group discussion. SUMMARY:Leadership Espresso – Exploring workplace conflict and how mediation can help
DESCRIPTION:Workplace conflict of any sort\, ranging from a process disagreement to personal conflict can be stressful\, time consuming and disruptive for those directly & indirectly involved. Responding to conflict when it arises and addressing the root cause at the earliest opportunity can reduce how wide reaching and entrenched the conflict becomes and help to limit the negative residual impact that can often ripple through a team. \nMediation is about working with the employees who are central to the conflict situation.  Helping them understand the key issues\, determine possible solutions and how to move forward beyond the conflict. \nThis espresso learning session will give you an interesting and meaningful guide through critical elements of conflict\, why it exists and what we can do about it when it arises in our workplace. It will be a combination of shared experience\, useful model and practical tips & language to use after the session.  The content is aimed at conflict in the workplace\, its impacts on individuals and the wider team\, why it exists and how mediation skills can be utilised to minimise and reduce the frequency of situations arising. SUMMARY:Talking Systems - Network interventions to reduce race and gender bias in medicine
DESCRIPTION:About the session: \nRace and gender bias in medicine is a persistent cause of healthcare disparities. Here\, we investigate the potential of a peer-network approach based on “collective intelligence” to reduce bias in medical treatment decisions. \nThis conversation hinges around a research project which found significant disparities in treatment recommendations amongst a group of clinicians. The work found that an intervention in terms of structured peer networks showed remarkable improvement in the quality in their clinical decisions\, resulting in the complete elimination of treatment disparities between patients. \nIt is argued that these findings offer a new generation of network interventions might be used in healthcare settings to reduce significant disparities in patient treatment. \nAbout the speaker: \nDamon Centola is the Elihu Katz Professor of Communication\, Sociology and Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania\, where he is Director of the Network Dynamics Group and Senior Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics. \nDamon is one of the world’s leading scholars on social networks and behavior change. His work has received numerous scientific awards\, including the Goodman Prize for Outstanding Contributions to Sociological Methodology in 2011; the James Coleman Award for Outstanding Research in Rationality and Society in 2017; and the Harrison White Award for Outstanding Scholarly Book in 2019.  He was a developer of the NetLogo agent based modeling environment\, and was awarded a U.S. Patent for inventing a method to promote diffusion in online networks. He is a member of the Sci Foo community and fellow of the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. \nPopular accounts of Damon’s work have appeared in The New York Times\, The Washington Post\, The Wall Street Journal\, Wired\, TIME\, The Atlantic\, Scientific American and CNN\, among other outlets.  Damon’s speaking and consulting clients include Amazon\, Apple\, Cigna\, General Motors\, Microsoft\, Ben & Jerry’s\, the U.S. Army\, and the NBA\, among others. DESCRIPTION:Workshop Two: Leading Inclusively and Appreciatively\n\n\n\nWe will build on the theme of understanding\, to focus on communication and messaging and to be an active catalyst for an inclusive culture. We will explore how to recognise micro-aggressions\, how to generate agency\, supportiveness and allyship in others and how to be an active bystander through interventions. We appreciate your support in providing this information\, which will help us to ensure our leadership development interventions are widely accessible and inclusive. \nThe session will be delivered virtually \nAbout the Facilitators\nCath Brown\, CBC\nCBC facilitators are trained and qualified as a coaches\, facilitators and supervisors. We focus on individual’s potential to achieve by focusing on their strengths\, understanding interference\, raising awareness to recognise issues and to take responsibility for actions. We work with your people and your organisation using a diagnostic approach to enable organisations to develop their own approach with ownership of activity and practice. We have a track record of delivering these particular programmes to great success across a range of different sectors and organisations.

DESCRIPTION:About the session:\nThis is an opportunity for you to find out more about the Graduate Management Training Scheme (GMTS) and how your organisation could benefit from getting involved. \nIn this webinar\, we will provide information on the expansion of the scheme\, an overview of the six specialisms and advise of the assurance process to host a trainee within the South East Region. \nWho is this session for?\n\nThis is for anyone who is interested in hosting a trainee in the future including further details about the assurance process for September 2023. \n\nBook your Place:\nBook a place via our GMTS registration Form. Once booked you will receive a calendar invite which also contains the joining instructions one week prior to the session. Please accept this invitation so that the time is held in your diary.  \nYour booking details (i.e. name\, role\, organisation\, ICS) will be shared with the event provider and/or facilitator to allow them to understand participant thinking and adapt the event accordingly\, in addition to other regional leadership academies (as required) and with the members of other relevant SELA networks to aid communication\, sharing of good practice and support.
