SUMMARY:Enhanced Access Planning: Reducing demand\, increasing capacity and bringing joy back into general practice Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Join Altogether Better for a short webinar to find out why doing more of the same might get you more of the same!  If you’re up for it\, and want to work differently\, Altogether Better can support you to as you develop your Enhanced Access Plans in a way that will reduce demand and increase capacity in your PCN.\nOur offer\nLearning from our joint work over the last year\, this offer from Altogether Better is to provide an opportunity to turn the must do of developing enhanced access plans into something you want to do\, meeting the needs of patients and bringing the joy back into work. \nOur approach will support you to:\n\n\n\nDevelop your plans and complete the PCN Enhanced Access template.\nMeet patient need and improve patient experience in a way that reduces demand for clinical appointments\nIncrease your PCN’s ability to deliver health and wellbeing without simply increasing paid roles\nAddress the population health inequalities agenda\nBuild a stronger\, more connected relationship with your community\nAnd…bring joy back into general practice at a time when pressures are high and morale is low.\n\n\n\nDemand and capacity within the complexity of primary care\nMuch of the current approach to demand and capacity is shaped by the experience of acute care. In the acute world demand and capacity is straightforward. For example\, how many hip replacements are needed in a year is incredibly predictable; patients have been triaged (referred by a GP or a consultant) and it is a simple question of eligibility. \nIn General Practice/PCNs it is a completely different issue needing different approaches. In primary care\, practices are facing ‘unstructured’ problems. Someone coming for a consultation can be looking for a day off work\, be having difficulty coping\, in an abusive relationship\, have a simple infection or a rare\, complex disease. \nUnderstanding demand\nThe starting point to understand demand in general practice is very different to that required in acute care. The starting point is to understand what the demand is for. To understand demand\, you must step back and uncover people’s needs.  Once you have a clearer picture\, you know which are best met by whom. \nWorking with Altogether Better\, practices discover a high proportion of the demand (up to 50%) is for needs that cannot be met by a GP or a nurse. Much of the demand is for social support (particularly if a LTC or social determinant) or interventions that can be delivered by citizens themselves\, citizens who can meet a plethora of social and wellbeing needs. \nWhere does it take place?\nPatients come to the practice – and will continue to come – because they are in a powerful\, trusting relationship with their practice. \nOur Collaborative Practice  approach has been designed to increase practice capacity to meet some of the non-clinical needs they face by inviting volunteer Practice Health Champions to become part of the ‘extended practice team’. Champions support the practice to provide new offers\, support and activities to their patients\, providing solutions to the problems that medicine alone cannot fix. \nJoin us to find out more:\nWe are hosting two short webinar discussions to share our approach and hear from you: \n\n\n\nThursday 30th June\, 12.15- 1.00pm\nFriday 1st July\, 12.30pm – 1.15pm\n\n\n\nThe webinar is free to join and places can be booked at the following link :  Register here with Eventbrite for free Enhanced Access Webinar

SUMMARY:Developing a Coaching Culture Programme - Action Learning Set Group 2 (workshop 6 of 6)
DESCRIPTION:Our series of initial workshops will aim to: \n\nEstablish an influential community with a shared objective of developing a culture of coaching across our region\, exploring together what this truly means.\nEngage a community who challenge and support each other’s thinking and practice through long-term relationships with mutual agreement of expectations and accountabilities.\nNurture\, mobilise\, grow and sustain a Coaching Culture throughout the region and beyond.\n\n\nWorkshop 1: Monday 28th March 13:00-17:00 – ‘Why and What’: Why might we want a coaching culture? What might it look like? What are the pros and cons?\nWorkshop 2: Friday 29th April 09:00-13:00–   ‘How and Who’: How we’ll create the culture we’re looking for\, in our own teams and organisations. Who we’ll need to help us and how we’ll get them on board.\nWorkshop 3: Monday 16th May 13:00-17:00 – ‘Where and When’: Where and when is this already happening? Setting ourselves up for success going forward.\nAction Learning Set – group 1 –  27th June \, 13:00- 17:00\nAction Learning Set – group 2 –4th July 13:00-17:00\n\nThis programme is open to all staff working in the South East who are true advocates of coaching and mentoring-type interactions\, and/or are effective and passionate developers of these skills whether this is something you do formally and consciously\, or instinctively day-to-day. This community is for the people who see the value in slowing down to speed up\, and can facilitate opportunities for others to do the same. This programme is not appropriate for qualified Coaches \nYou will be either employed by the NHS or working with an NHS funded employer delivering NHS funded care in clinical or non-clinical roles \nNB: This is not training programme per se and there will be no Coaching accreditation or qualification at the end. It is a structured\, bespoke\, highly collaborative and interconnected series of sessions aimed at helping you nurture\, mobilise\, grow and sustain a Coaching Culture in your organisation. The emphasis is on helping each other navigate the various enablers and inhibitors in our organisations. We’ve asked the facilitator to use their expertise in coaching and culture change to support and enable us\, just like a really good coach would. So\, there’s very little teaching indeed: for the most part\, we are the content. \nFor more information on this programme please visit the Developing a Coaching Culture Programme webpage. \nOur Commitment  \nWe are committed to making our training as accessible as possible (please see our accessibility page for what is currently available)\, we are aware that there is more that we can be doing. Please do contact us if there are any reasonable adjustments that we can make to support you to be able to attend this session. england.selll@nhs.net

SUMMARY:Leadership Espresso: Supporting you with meaningful mediation skills
DESCRIPTION:The South East Leadership Academy are pleased to introduce a new learning programme; Supporting you with Meaningful Mediation Skills\, which provides you with an opportunity to explore and apply a range of approaches in the management and resolution of workplace conflict. Conflict at work can be stressful\, time consuming and disruptive for those directly involved and also those within the team and / or department who are indirectly involved. Responding to conflict when it arises and addressing the root cause at the earliest opportunity can reduce how wide reaching and entrenched the conflict becomes and help to limit the negative residual impact that can often ripple through a team. \nMediation is about working with employees’ central to the conflict situation\, to help them understand the key issues\, determine possible solutions and how to move forward beyond the conflict. \nThese sessions focus on the skill of mediation and will provide time for you to learn new tools and techniques to support yourself and your teams in addressing conflict. This programme is designed to refresh and refine your skills in how to respond or facilitate the resolution of conflict in the workplace. \nDescribed below is a summary of the programme\, it is important to note that this programme has been designed for and aimed at people experiencing current or ‘live’ situations where they have a direct role in supporting the resolution of a conflict situation. \nThe programme is delivered by Noelle Davies a qualified Workplace Mediator & Conflict Coach who works across a range of public and private sector industries as a conflict expert. \n

SUMMARY:Mentoring in a Thinking environment
DESCRIPTION:About the session:\n\nAn Introduction to Mentoring in a Thinking Environment \nGiven that the primary task of a mentor is to empower people to learn from acting and to act on their learning\, mentors need to adopt a different mindset from the one they use in their NHS day job as a manager\, clinician or specialist.  We need to move away from the diagnostic listening and analysis that we are so practised at and take a mentee-focused approach.  In other words\, our sessions need to be in an environment where our mentee can relax and think for themselves.  This session will introduce some of the key ideas from Nancy Kline’s work on Time to Think and includes opportunities for you to put these into practice with colleagues. \n\nWho is this session for?\nThis virtual event is for our South East Mentoring Faculty Only \nBook your Place:\nReserve a place via our RSVP booking system below. You will receive the Joining Instructions on how to attend 1 week prior to the event. \nIf your circumstances change and you can no longer attend\, please email england.selll@nhs.net \nAlthough we will be able to see your name and email address upon submission\, once extrapolated this data will be anonymised. We appreciate your support in providing this information\, which will help us to ensure our leadership development interventions are widely accessible and inclusive. \nThe session will be delivered virtually on Microsoft Teams \nAbout the Facilitators\nLorna Wellsteed\, Director of Wellsteed Associates\nLorna Wellsteed is an experienced and credentialed executive coach. Every coaching contract is unique to the individual client and reflects a strong belief in coaching as a developmental alliance between the coach and client. Lorna takes a systemic approach to her coaching. The focus invariably concerns a client’s key relationships. It is an understanding of the complexity and interdependence of those relationships that can provide useful insights into how to bring about change. The coaching process is about supporting the client through change\, looking at patterns of thinking and behaviour\, in the context of effectiveness as a business leader. The coaching takes place in a climate that promotes the client’s thinking.

SUMMARY:Leading Innovation in Systems Programme: Community of Practice 4
DESCRIPTION:The Leadership Academy in partnership with Fischer Associates launched a new leadership action research programme that applies systems thinking to exploring why and how innovations get adopted and spread. \nThe programme will support system leaders across the South East Region in experiential learning\, working together on real time regional change in primary care.  The programme will last a minimum of 6 months and will focus on identifying how system change happens and how specific conditions for change can be created and recreated to support the scale and spread of other innovation.  As a leader on this programme\, you will contribute to developing a new approach to scale and spread of innovation to potentially be used across the South East region and will be expected to use this approach to a change programme in your own system. \nFor more information about this programme\, please click here.
