SUMMARY:Leading Innovation in Systems Programme: Community of Practice 2
DESCRIPTION:The Leadership Academy in partnership with Fischer Associates launched a new leadership action research programme that applies systems thinking to exploring why and how innovations get adopted and spread. \nThe programme will support system leaders across the South East Region in experiential learning\, working together on real time regional change in primary care.  The programme will last a minimum of 6 months and will focus on identifying how system change happens and how specific conditions for change can be created and recreated to support the scale and spread of other innovation.  As a leader on this programme\, you will contribute to developing a new approach to scale and spread of innovation to potentially be used across the South East region and will be expected to use this approach to a change programme in your own system. \nFor more information about this programme\, please click here.

SUMMARY:Developing a Coaching Culture Programme - Workshop 4 of 6
DESCRIPTION:Our series of initial workshops will aim to: \n\nEstablish an influential community with a shared objective of developing a culture of coaching across our region\, exploring together what this truly means.\nEngage a community who challenge and support each other’s thinking and practice through long-term relationships with mutual agreement of expectations and accountabilities.\nNurture\, mobilise\, grow and sustain a Coaching Culture throughout the region and beyond.\n\n\nWorkshop 1: Monday 28th March 13:00-17:00 – ‘Why and What’: Why might we want a coaching culture? What might it look like? What are the pros and cons?\nWorkshop 2: Friday 29th April 09:00-13:00–   ‘How and Who’: How we’ll create the culture we’re looking for\, in our own teams and organisations. Who we’ll need to help us and how we’ll get them on board.\nWorkshop 3: Monday 16th May 13:00-17:00 – ‘Where and When’: Where and when is this already happening? What green shoots are we seeing\, here and elsewhere\, and how can we nurture them?\nWorkshop 4: Monday 6th June 13:00-17:00 – ‘What next?’: Mapping and modelling the complex systems that enable and inhibit this culture we’re seeking. Setting ourselves up for success going forward.\nAction Learning Set – group 1 –  27th June \, 13:00- 17:00\nAction Learning Set – group 2 –4th July 13:00-17:00\n\nThis programme is open to all staff working in the South East who are true advocates of coaching and mentoring-type interactions\, and/or are effective and passionate developers of these skills whether this is something you do formally and consciously\, or instinctively day-to-day. This community is for the people who see the value in slowing down to speed up\, and can facilitate opportunities for others to do the same. This programme is not appropriate for qualified Coaches \nYou will be either employed by the NHS or working with an NHS funded employer delivering NHS funded care in clinical or non-clinical roles \nNB: This is not training programme per se and there will be no Coaching accreditation or qualification at the end. It is a structured\, bespoke\, highly collaborative and interconnected series of sessions aimed at helping you nurture\, mobilise\, grow and sustain a Coaching Culture in your organisation. The emphasis is on helping each other navigate the various enablers and inhibitors in our organisations. We’ve asked the facilitator to use their expertise in coaching and culture change to support and enable us\, just like a really good coach would. So\, there’s very little teaching indeed: for the most part\, we are the content. \nFor more information on this programme please visit the Developing a Coaching Culture Programme webpage. \nOur Commitment  \nWe are committed to making our training as accessible as possible (please see our accessibility page for what is currently available)\, we are aware that there is more that we can be doing. Please do contact us if there are any reasonable adjustments that we can make to support you to be able to attend this session. england.selll@nhs.net

SUMMARY:Systems Convening
DESCRIPTION:Systems Convening- June 2022\nDelivered in collaboration with the NHS South West Leadership Academy and Wenger-Trayner Unip Ltd\, via zoom. \nThis workshop is intended for you if your work involves convening people across Boundaries and silos\, under whatever role or name it is done. The goal of this workshop is to help you think through and plan your strategy for dealing with your project in its broader context of often-competing initiatives\, perspectives\, expectations\, and politics. \nBackground:\nMany people nowadays find themselves leading initiatives that seem more complex than they used to be. Circumstances quickly change\, people’s stances on different sides of traditional boundaries are deepening\, expectations of results are speeding up. We call the kind of people who take on these challenges systems conveners. \nThe workshop engages participants in a reflection on their work from a systems-convening perspective. This entails understanding the mindset that systems conveners bring to their project as well as the various dimensions of the work of systems convening. \nCore module – 7th June 2022\, 10:00-11:30\nThe core module is open to everyone. It provides an overview of systems convening — its purpose is to give you a general understanding of the topic. \nThe purpose of this session is to: \n\n– Gain a language for talking about systems convening as a form of leadership for the 21st century\n– Review the dimensions of the work of systems convening\n– Understand the mindset of a systems convener\n– Hear some stories of systems convening in action\n\nThe 90-minute core module has two parts: \n\n– 40-minute introductory session about systems convening\n– an optional 40-minute applied session mapping the social landscape in which you operate\n\nThe optional 40-minute applied session is a guided process for mapping your landscape from a systems convening perspective. \nFacilitator Bios\nEtienne and Beverly Wenger-Trayner\nEtienne and Beverly Wenger-Trayner are internationally renowned social learning theorists and consultants. Their pioneering work in social learning is influential in such diverse fields as learning theory\, business\, government\, international development\, healthcare\, and education. Their consulting practice specializes in contexts where there are large-scale social learning challenges. They founded the Social Learning Lab\, where they host series of events oriented to theory\, practice\, and leadership. The co-edited volume Learning in landscapes of practice expands the theory beyond single communities. Systems convening sheds light on a crucial form of social-learning leadership. They are preparing a guidebook for communities of practice. They have started a book series called Learning to make a difference and recently published the first volume. It introduces the concept of social learning space as a new foundation for the theory\, and their value-creation framework as a tool for both conceptualizing and cultivating social learning. Read the book here: Systems Convening – A crucial form of leadership for the 21st century (free PDF download). \nRegistration\nAll modules are free to participants as part of the South West Leadership Academy’s programme offers. \n By applying\, you are agreeing to a cancellation charge of £150\, you will be liable for this fee if you are successful in obtaining a place and then withdraw/ do not attend the programme without extenuating circumstances. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Working at Scale: Strategic Skills Programme for PCN Managers 2021: Session 6 of 6
DESCRIPTION:“This programme has stimulated and activated a lot of advice and learning\, helping me to reframe my skills and abilities in the context of my current role.” \nThis programme provides support and development for PCN (Primary Care Network) Managers with a focus on their personal skills of leadership and collaboration to ‘work at scale’.  It will consider the nature of the role and reflect on the rapid changes COVID has bought about to the way the PCN needs to work and move forward.  It is designed to equip PCN Managers with the tools\, skills\, strategies and networks to lead\, manage and influence change.  It will consider how PCNs and the NHS Long Term Plan (LTP) will shape the way healthcare is delivered locally\, regionally and nationally\, and have a voice in the emerging Integrated Care Systems. \nThe purpose of the programme is for PCN Managers to have an opportunity to step away from their busy operational environment and spend time networking\, sharing best practice and working ‘on their local healthcare environment’ rather than ‘operationally in it’.  It is not about how to be a PCN manager\, rather how to develop the skills that will support you to be effective in the role and to enable you to connect with other PCN Managers to help build a regional support network. \nSpecifically\, the programme aims are to: \n\n\n\nProvide you with a robust learning environment to develop ideas\, strategies\, skills and tools to drive their Primary Care Networks forward\, as appropriate.\nGive you time and space away from the busy operation to help them shape\, plan build and deliver change across the South East Region\, and in your PCN.\nWork with others on common challenges within Primary Care\, (e.g. Resourcing) and develop ways of working in collaboration\, co-production\, and joined up thinking.\nDevelop and enhance leadership skills and strategic thinking\, and how to engage others in change.\nEnhance and develop your personal network of other PCN Managers as well as healthcare leaders and decision makers in Primary Care.\n\n\n\nFor more information about this programme\, please click here.

SUMMARY:Enhanced Access Planning: Reducing demand\, increasing capacity and bringing joy back into general practice Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Join Altogether Better for a short webinar to find out why doing more of the same might get you more of the same!  If you’re up for it\, and want to work differently\, Altogether Better can support you to as you develop your Enhanced Access Plans in a way that will reduce demand and increase capacity in your PCN.\nOur offer\nLearning from our joint work over the last year\, this offer from Altogether Better is to provide an opportunity to turn the must do of developing enhanced access plans into something you want to do\, meeting the needs of patients and bringing the joy back into work. \nOur approach will support you to:\n\n\n\nDevelop your plans and complete the PCN Enhanced Access template.\nMeet patient need and improve patient experience in a way that reduces demand for clinical appointments\nIncrease your PCN’s ability to deliver health and wellbeing without simply increasing paid roles\nAddress the population health inequalities agenda\nBuild a stronger\, more connected relationship with your community\nAnd…bring joy back into general practice at a time when pressures are high and morale is low.\n\n\n\nDemand and capacity within the complexity of primary care\nMuch of the current approach to demand and capacity is shaped by the experience of acute care. In the acute world demand and capacity is straightforward. For example\, how many hip replacements are needed in a year is incredibly predictable; patients have been triaged (referred by a GP or a consultant) and it is a simple question of eligibility. \nIn General Practice/PCNs it is a completely different issue needing different approaches. In primary care\, practices are facing ‘unstructured’ problems. Someone coming for a consultation can be looking for a day off work\, be having difficulty coping\, in an abusive relationship\, have a simple infection or a rare\, complex disease. \nUnderstanding demand\nThe starting point to understand demand in general practice is very different to that required in acute care. The starting point is to understand what the demand is for. To understand demand\, you must step back and uncover people’s needs.  Once you have a clearer picture\, you know which are best met by whom. \nWorking with Altogether Better\, practices discover a high proportion of the demand (up to 50%) is for needs that cannot be met by a GP or a nurse. Much of the demand is for social support (particularly if a LTC or social determinant) or interventions that can be delivered by citizens themselves\, citizens who can meet a plethora of social and wellbeing needs. \nWhere does it take place?\nPatients come to the practice – and will continue to come – because they are in a powerful\, trusting relationship with their practice. \nOur Collaborative Practice  approach has been designed to increase practice capacity to meet some of the non-clinical needs they face by inviting volunteer Practice Health Champions to become part of the ‘extended practice team’. Champions support the practice to provide new offers\, support and activities to their patients\, providing solutions to the problems that medicine alone cannot fix. \nJoin us to find out more:\nWe are hosting two short webinar discussions to share our approach and hear from you: \n\n\n\nThursday 30th June\, 12.15- 1.00pm\nFriday 1st July\, 12.30pm – 1.15pm\n\n\n\nThe webinar is free to join and places can be booked at the following link :  Register here with Eventbrite for free Enhanced Access Webinar
