SUMMARY:Effective Mentoring Training for Senior Leaders and Aspirant Directors Session 1 of 3
DESCRIPTION:Developing potential within others\nMentoring supports an individual or team’s learning\, development and performance. It is a successful developmental technique for organisations to use to support individuals to reach their full potential by offering them access to regular and contracted support from another person at work. \nMentoring can be particularly when targeting a specific audience such as mentoring for talent or inclusion and the training will focus on the skills\, knowledge\, tools and techniques to mentor effectively in practice within the NHS setting both mentor and mentee up for a successful and productive relationship. \nWho is it for?\nThis development is offered to NHS Senior Leaders and Aspiring Directors working in the South East region\, who will then become part of our regional Mentor facility and offer mentoring throughout our regional register. \nWhy Mentor training?\nAs Aspiring directors\, mentor training will build your ability to: \n\n\n\ndevelop the strengths and development needs of a diverse range of individuals\nspots potential: explore the career aspirations and shape development activities to support people to achieve their goals\nhelp mentees identify any capability gaps and close that gap\n\n\n\nThe material and practical exercises cover the following areas in order to build confidence in mentoring others within the workplace. \nObjectives\nThe session will be virtually delivered using Zoom. \nDay 1 (full day) \n\n\n\nUnderstanding what mentoring is (and what it is not)\nUnderstanding the context for mentoring and explore the role and responsibilities of the mentor\nDeveloping your own mentoring skills\nUsing process\, logs and paperwork to help bring focus to our mentoring\nUsing tools and techniques to creatively support and mentor\nTo practice mentoring skills and techniques in a range of circumstances\nTo explore how to use mentoring in practice to support and develop individuals.\n\n\n\nDay 2 (half day) \nThis will be a reflective CPD session with the opportunity to bring cases and explore application of learning in practice. Over the past 16 years he has coached many operational and clinical leaders across health and social care\, as well as coaching in education\, business and for the clergy. As an executive coach\, Chris has a reputation for creating honest and meaningful coaching relationships which deliver on client-focused outputs and longer-term outcomes. Naturally intuitive\, he brings authenticity to the coaching space and co-creates and co-produces honest dialogue which enables the coaching client to feel supported\, challenged and accountable for decisions and actions. \nSarah Massie\nSarah is a freelance leadership and organisational development consultant\, leadership coach and coach supervisor. She has a special interest in compassionate leadership through mindfulness\, using organisational development to support psychologically safe cultures where individuals and teams flourish.  She has almost 30 years experience in the NHS\, including NHS East of England\, where she was Head of Talent Management and Leadership Development and five years as a Senior Leadership Consultant at The King’s Fund. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:About the session:\nSupervision plays a significant role in helping you build your knowledge\, increase self-awareness\, and improve your coaching practice.  The approach allows you to critically reflect on your practice\, explore what worked well and what did not\, gain insight into your strengths and potential blind spots\, while harnessing the resourcefulness within a group of 6-8 attendees to support you. The focus is to create a safe and supportive environment that concentrates on participants’ learning.  The format is characterised by active listening and thoughtful questioning. We apply simple rules of reflection so individuals can take stock of their coaching\, explore their thoughts and feelings around their work\, and strengthen understanding and confidence. \n\nThe supervision will cover individual and whole group questions and topics. He has extensively supported directors and senior managers across sectors\, from the NHS\, national and local government departments\, the College of Police\, Microsoft\, to charities and social enterprises. Will holds an Advanced Professional Practice supervision qualification from Oxford Brookes University and is an NLP Master Practitioner. He is an accredited consultant with the National College for Teaching and Leadership and delivered programmes for Manchester University’s Centre for Educational Leadership to local government and education leaders to build strategic leadership capability. Will also has an MBA from Manchester Business School. \nCoaching across different NHS organisations has given Will an in-depth understanding of the challenges and pressures staff in a highly pressured\, changing landscape. From 2009 he worked with the learning and development team at South London Healthcare Trust to develop internal coaches\, and subsequently provided group and individual supervision. Will brings a collaborative approach to supervision\, aiming to build greater awareness and capability through positive support\, clear feedback\, and challenge.
