SUMMARY:International Recruitment - Supporting Self Discovery: Building Connection\, Confidence and Belonging
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite your multi-professional Trust team who lead and deliver the recruitment\, transition\, and induction of your international staff (Nurses\, Midwives\, AHPs) to attend a 1-day conference-style practical shared working session. \nDate: 14th March 2023 \nTime: 09.00 – 16.30 (for a 9.30 start\, aiming to finish at 16.00)  \nVenue: Novotel Hotel\, Southampton – (5 minutes walk from Southampton Central station – map) \n\nAbout the session:\nThe session is a conference-style development day\, run at a system level – enabling the Trusts across IOW to come together in a shared learning experience. \nThis one-day working session will be to: \n\n\n\n\nShare current best practices\, ideas and options for how to enhance the recruitment and induction process\nUnderstanding what are some of the biggest psychological challenges for staff joining the NHS at the moment\nGain practical approaches\, suggestions and methods to incorporate into your existing ways of working\nLearn from each other\, share your experiences and be progressive in how we think and behave as we continue to support the workforce.\n\nWho Should Attend \nWe would like to invite your multi-professional Trust team who lead and deliver the recruitment\, transition\, and induction of your international staff (Nurses\, Midwives\, AHPs) to attend a 1-day conference-style practical shared working session. \nWhy should you attend? \nWe believe in ensuring each Nurse that joins the NHS is supported from the outset and that a strong sense of belonging and trust is fostered. Moving to a new country is often a mix of emotions for people including excitement to loss\, fear\, anxiety\, and pressure. \nThis programme seeks to support Nurses in normalising these emotions\, enabling strong positive relationships to be made and in enhancing their confidence and self-belief. SUMMARY:Population health through community development: Maximising the impact of anchor institutions
DESCRIPTION:Through the concept of the anchor institution\, the ways in which health and social care can positively impact the economic well-being of our populations are being carefully considered and developed. \nWe are increasingly aware of the systemic factors that underpin population health: there is naturally a focus on environment as a key issue – but also an acknowledgement that local economic development plays a vital part in keeping the communities that we seek to serve well. \nIn so many localities where health and social care enjoys a presence\, the sector represents a major economic player. We are a key purchaser of goods and services – which\, in terms of both community development and ecology – we should be buying locally. And\, crucially at this time\, we are oftentimes the biggest employer in the area – although our “travel to work” patterns may not reflect this. \nAt this half-day event\, we will start to explore the link between community involvement\, local economic development\, and population health – with a particular emphasis on shifting our thinking and practice in terms of our workforce challenges. The event will give us the opportunity to consider topics such as genuinely hearing the voice of our populations and reconsidering our recruitment practices to create a more local focus. \nWe look forward to welcoming a number of expert contributors as well making space and time for us all to speak about our experiences and generate fresh ideas to take back to our workplaces. \nFor example\, we will be joined by Paul Beenen from the Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen\, who will speak about his experiences as a key participant in local engagement projects in respect to complexity in health and welfare (www.ecolah.eu).
