COVID19 has brought to wider consciousness inequalities in different areas from healthcare to technology. Population health brings significant concerns into focus and introduces ways that resources can be allocated to overcome problems that drive poor health conditions. This programme of masterclasses will support individuals and teams to have a solid understanding of Population Health Management and the importance of it in addressing inequalities, workforce planning and embedding population health with your system.
This is an offer co-hosted by our colleagues in the Midlands Leadership Academy and is open to applications across the South East.
Each Masterclass will cover a new topic relating to population health management, and will run as an individual session. Attending one of these Masterclasses
Please register to attend this generic population health management offers and have access to toolkit resource during the learning process and for your future reference. These 90 minutes masterclasses are to help you to tackle some of the health and workforce inequalities from a regional, local and nation level to support you build and adopt a population health management approach in your day to day work. These series of masterclasses will be accessible across NHS England’s five regions East of England , Midlands , London , Southeast and Northwest.
The Programme is a collaborative work of five NHS England Leadership & Lifelong Learning Teams. Facilitated jointly by NHS England Leadership Academy delivery partners Enhance Coaching and Consultancy Ltd (lot 1 & 2) and Carter & Corson Partnership Ltd Lot 3
Each programme will be delivered virtually and the focus will be on creating a learning environment that is engaging, interactive, informative, supportive, challenging and practical.
Aims of these Masterclasses
1) Develop system participants’ capacity and capability that is confident in utilising a population health management approach
2) Understand the care and health needs of specific populations, this may include but not limited to understanding treatment gaps, inequalities, and impact of the wider determinants of health
3) Explore and review evidence based population health approaches at local and regional level to inform need based planning and cost effectiveness in decision making and prioritisation
4) Utilising Population Health management approach in continuous improvement to reduce demand for Health and Care services, reduce inequalities and improve public and patient outcomes and sustainable public services

Masterclass 1 – Population Health Management and Health Inequalities
Objective of the session
- Understand the meaning, and content of population health approaches in the context of system or ICS
- Explore global population health management approach across African, Asia, Europe, and America in the context socio-economic global trends i.e., Covid, Ukraine Crisis, Climate Change
- Identify local, regional, and national opportunities for improving population health and evidence-based approaches (best practice).
- Understand the role of system to challenge their approach toward population health
Masterclass 2 – Population Health Management and Strategic Workforce Planning
Objective of the session
- Understand the impact of strategic workforce planning in tackling health inequalities and how Population Health Management can be an asset in effective workforce planning
- Ensure participants/workforce have the skills and leadership that meet their population health needs
- Improve understanding of population health management information
Masterclass 3 – Techniques to embed Population Health Management approaches in day-to-day work
Objective of the session
- Learn about the core PHM capabilities – Infrastructure, Intelligence, Interventions, and Incentives – to support maturity in line with the PHM Maturity Matrix
- Behaviour science approach addressing health inequalities and patient and public involvement
- Tacking digital poverty, fuel poverty, language barriers and health inequalities in access health service
